“From 1976 to 1988, I was very active in motorbike racing myself. After this fantastic period, I devoted myself to our transport company ‘van der Mark transport BV’ with the same 100% dedication. 10 years later, I had a bit more time for racing once again and I started to give racing lessons on the Assen circuit. From 2000, I also did the speed week in Almeria, Spain. And from 2005, when Michael started racing in the junior cup, I also began to teach these young riders. Of all the teaching, the junior cup was actually one of my favourites, because these young guys are so eager to learn and are so keen to really go for it, they just want to go straight out and beat the opposition. These days I only teach at the speed week, because Michael's competitions in the Dutch Open and IDM naturally require a lot of time and effort, but there's nothing I would rather do. However, I must admit one thing, it’s harder to watch Michael on the circuit than go round it myself at 250 km an hour!”
